چکیده
Visitor effect studies have been of keen interest for decades, but there only anecdotal opportunities to investigate the impact prolonged absence visitors on animal welfare in zoos. In some zoos, bears are actively involved animal–visitors interaction through begging, which gives them degree control over gaining food rewards throughout day when present. Prolonged visitor may, therefore, represent a loss and negative bears’ welfare. this study, we behavior four brown (Ursus arctos) three zoos see how animals’ changed depending presence public during zoo closures 2020 related COVID-19 pandemic. The was assessed using activity budget analysis novel object tests. results showed that varied between facilities no individuals who had access indoor holding space. study discussed terms choice their wellbeing

Treatment of hypoxemia during anesthesia of brown bears (Ursus arctos).
This study assessed whether arterial oxygenation could be increased by treatment with intranasal oxygen supplementation in brown bears (Ursus arctos) with hypoxemia during anesthesia with medetomidine-zolazepam-tiletamine. Arterial blood samples were collected anaerobically from the femoral artery before and during oxygen supplementation. An oxygen flow rate of 2-5 L/min administered intranasal...
متن کاملGenetic relationships of extant brown bears (Ursus arctos) and polar bears (Ursus maritimus).
Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) and brown bears (Ursus arctos) are closely related species for which extensive mitochondrial and nuclear phylogenetic comparisons have been made. We used previously published genotype data for 8 microsatellite DNA loci from 930 brown bears in 19 populations and 473 polar bears in 16 populations to compare the population genetic relationships of extant populations o...
متن کاملMetabolic Changes in Summer Active and Anuric Hibernating Free-Ranging Brown Bears (Ursus arctos)
The brown bear (Ursus arctos) hibernates for 5 to 6 months each winter and during this time ingests no food or water and remains anuric and inactive. Despite these extreme conditions, bears do not develop azotemia and preserve their muscle and bone strength. To date most renal studies have been limited to small numbers of bears, often in captive environments. Sixteen free-ranging bears were dar...
متن کاملCapture, Anesthesia, and Disturbance of Free-Ranging Brown Bears (Ursus arctos) during Hibernation
We conducted thirteen immobilizations of previously collared hibernating two- to four-year-old brown bears (Ursus arctos) weighing 21-66 kg in central Sweden in winter 2010 and 2011 for comparative physiology research. Here we report, for the first time, an effective protocol for the capture and anesthesia of free-ranging brown bears during hibernation and an assessment of the disturbance the c...
